Lustrous Fictional Air
This series ponders the existence of sensations beyond what we see. Recently I found myself enchanted by the magical phenomena of air and how because of its invisibility, we may not take the time to imagine and understand just what is happening in all this air.
When I closed my eyes I found that I became gradually more aware of the subtle shifts and movements carried through the air, particularly by way of scent and sound. The air suddenly felt more sophisticated and alive from this perspective and I began to feel and hear with greater attention and clarity. I could feel the air trace a cool whisper across my cheek and I could hear the air change pace in the leaves. I could smell the time of day by the way the dew settled and lifted with the sun and the way the day sounded when it was washed clean, after the dust had returned to its condensed and earthen darkness.
The series Lustrous Fictional Air is a representation of the way I imagine these sensations of sound and scent to appear. Soft, billowing, lustrous and elated, other times a sweeping harmonious gesture.
Each painting serves as a reminder to immerse ourselves in all our perceptive senses; to seek beyond the misleading idea that true value only lies in what we can physically see.
